Here's a view of the hut and the photogenic Mount Ngauruhoe, which is a volcano that last erupted in 1977 (a great year), and erupts every 30 years on average, meaning that it could erupt at any time. Unfortunately it didn't happen while I was there... that would have been a good photo! This photo is on day 1, when the weather had cleared giving great views of previously clouded over west face of Mt. Ngauruhoe. If you are wondering about the huts they are comfy little places with gas stoves and heating, drinking water, bunk beds for 15 or so, and outdoor pit toilets, but don't expect electricity or hot water. Cozy places and a whole lot better than pitching a tent after a long hike.
